Unknown Famous Poem
Rosemary write us about a poem she saw at the front of the Adam Lindsay Gordon cottage in the Botanical Gardens in Victoria. Unfortunately it didn't give the name of the poem and she couldn't find it on the Internet. Always up to a challenge, we did find the poem, but listed incorrectly under various titles. The actual title of the entire poem is Ye Wearie Wayfarer. Gordon wrote the very long poem in eight fyttes. This is part of his famous quote from the last fytte called Finis Exoptatus:
Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone,
Kindness in another’s trouble,
Courage in your own.
Favourite Yank Quote
As long as we're sharing quotes, it's by a Yank, but we love it anyway. Don't worry about the world coming to an end today.
It's already tomorrow in Australia.
Charles M. Schulz
