Australian Birthday Today - Ralph Tony Sarich, born 10 December 1938, in Baskerville, WA, is a Western Australian businessman and engineer of Austrian/Croatian descent.

    In Australia his parents migrated to Australia pre 1930’s “Great Depression”. He is the inventor of the
    Ralph at a young age gained an apprenticeship as a Fitter/Turner, while he did his Secondary Level years 11 and 12 subjects part-time.

    Ralp, the inventor of the Orbital Engine and founder of the Orbital Engine and founder of the Orbital Engine Company (Australia) Pty Ltd but sold the intellectual property to many – automobile, marine and motorcycle manufacturers.

    Under simulated urban/highway driving cycles it produced fuel/emission results superior to the best selected engines of the era.

    Fuel economy advantages of 50% were demonstrated against the best outboard marine engines and 20-25% under typical automobile operating conditions. Additional savings of 5-10% were considered readily achievable with further development. This was accompanied by a massive reduction in the “direct engine out” of several key emissions gases.

      1972 Sir Lawrence Hartnett ‘Inventors Award – Science
      1972 West Australian ‘Citizen of the Year’
      1973 Jaycees ‘Outstanding Young Australian
      1986 The ‘Hartnett Medal’ of the Royal Society of Arts UK (contribution to manufacture and commerce)
      1987 Honorary Degree of Doctorate of Science, Murdoch University
      1988 Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)
      1988 The ‘Churchill Medal’ awarded by the British Society of Engineers (first time outside of the United Kingdom)
      1988 Fellow of the British Society of Engineers
      1991 Clunies Ross National Science and Technology Award

    Ralph continued to invent the following
