3 Major events in Australian History Today.
1800's
1825 – Aboriginal bushranger Musquito

is hanged at Hobart, Tasmania.

Musquito (c. 1780 – 25 February 1825) was an Indigenous Australian outlaw, or bushranger, based in Van Diemen's Land.

He was born in Sydney Cove or Guring-Gai and transported to Van Diemen's Land for murdering his wife.

After his release he turned to working as an Aboriginal tracker. According to some sources, he supplemented his wages by pimping Aboriginal women to white men.
Musquito together a gang of Aborigines who robbed and murdered white settlers and their farmhands.

Eventually captured by an Aboriginal tracker named Tegg, Musquito was convicted of the murder of a Tahitian farm hand named Mammoa while stealing dogs from the Tahitian's employer.

The sentence was carried out atOld Hobart Gaol on 25 February 1825.

1900's
1961 – Last electric tram service runs in Sydney.

2001 – Cricketer Don Bradman

dies in Adelaide aged 92.


Sir Donald George "Don" Bradman, AC (27 August 1908, Cootamundra, New South Wales, – 25 February 2001, Kensington Park, South Australia.), often referred to as "The Don".

Bradman was an Australian cricketer, widely acknowledged as the greatest Test batsman of all time.

Bradman's career Test batting average of 99.94 is often cited as the greatest achievement by any sportsman in any major sport.

After his wife's death in 1997, Bradman suffered "a discernible and not unexpected wilting of spirit".

Hospitalised with pneumonia in December 2000, he returned home in the New Year and died

A memorial service to mark Bradman's life was held on 25 March 2001 at St Peter's Anglican Cathedral, Adelaide. The service was broadcast live on ABC Television to a viewing audience of 1.45 million
