Lorrae Desmond, MBE

(2 October 1932, Mittagong, New South Wales)

A Gold Logie-award winning Australian singer, entertainer, and character actress, with a career spanning over 50 years.

In 1962, she made history by being the first woman to win the Gold Logie, for her work on The Lorrae Desmond Show.

She remains best known for her long running role as Shirley Gilroy in the television series A Country Practice, which she played from 1981 to 1992.

Desmond was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1970 for services to entertainment and the welfare of the Australian Forces in Vietnam.

John Trezise Tonkin AC

(2 February 1902, Boulder, Western Australia – 20 October 1995, Perth, Western Australia) Popularly known as "Honest John", was an Australian politician.

A member of the Australian Labor Party, Tonkin was the 20th Premier of Western Australia 1971-1974

He also served as a Member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for a record 44 years from 1933 to 1977.

Priya Naree Cooper, OAM
(born 2 October 1974, South Perth, Western Australia)
An Australian world champion disabled swimmer, winning nine Paralympic gold medals as well as world records and world championships.

Cooper has cerebral palsy and spends much of her time in a wheelchair.

She competed in the Australian 1992, 1996 and 2000 Summer Paralympics swimming team.

She was twice the co-captain of the Australian Paralympic team, including at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney.

Cooper has carried the Australian flag at the closing ceremonies for the 1992 and 1996 Summer Paralympics.
