  • 1818 – John Ainsworth Horrocks, one of the first settlers of the Clare Valley in South Australia, is born near Preston, Lancashire.
  • 1897 - Edmund Barton heads a conference to discuss the proposed constitution for the Commonwealth of Australia.
  • 1942 – Nine Japanese aircraft bomb Katherine, this was the only air raid against Katherine, one man was killed.
  • 2003 – Bob Carr's ALP government is re-elected for a third term in New South Wales.
